It’s critical during difficult times that you have a source of books, or group of people, or place internally to reboot. After walking in the Women’s March and seeing so many people smiling and talking, I was seriously uplifted. I knew that part of working for progress is to stay focused and keep smiling so I thought of going back to the drawing board to figure out why I care about ethical fashion and why I continuously want to raise awareness. Keeping smiling and galvanized to make change in your own way is critical. So now at home, I thought I would share a few of my favorite authors’ words that serve to keep the flame of a happy fighter, championing labor and environmental rights, burning inside me.
”Peace Begins with a smile” Mother Theresa. Nothing like a smile to break the ice, to lift one’s spirits and to open discussions that lead to helpful dialogue.
”What is your why?” Eric Thomas. Its always easier to go that extra mile when you are clear about the reason you are working towards a goal.
“When you knock, ask to see God . . . not any of the self-appointed intermediaries. —Thoreau” – Tosha Silver . I really enjoy this quote from Tosha Silver’s book Outrageous Openness because it permits each individual to seek their own answers spiritually without getting confused by other people’s messages.
“Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.” – David Mitchell. Cloud Atlas is a masterpiece in helping me deal with the injustices in the world, and lack of retribution. It has helped me understand the connection we all have with our enemies as well as our friends.
“She wasn’t looking for a knight she was looking for a sword.” – Atticus. Love this quote, because it encourages independence and gusto! Take up your arms of activism, in whatever way you chose and know that every effort is needed and appreciated. We cannot rest until the work is done, but we can smile, stay focused and fight the good fight!
