So Halloween is on its way! It’s a holiday celebration that has always excited me. It’s because of the taboo feeling around it. We have people who are against it on religious grounds, because of their understanding/perspective of its connection with the Devil. When it was first introduced to me and I participated I was nine years old and dressed as an Angel. I loved dressing up and knocking on stranger’s doors with friends for candy …on a school night!!
Last time, I was a witch and went to a club filled with people dressed up. Getting ready for it was so much fun and partying with Goblins, Minnie Mouse and historical dead leaders was epic! I just love dressing up and this time of year I get to explore and express this mysterious dark character of mine. So this year in London, there’s this party that looks hard core celebration, and I’m worried if it’s an actual Satan worship celebration.
The thought came to me…1) so what if it was 2) do you know what that would even involve? For one that knows media and history books can be biased, I should not be quick to believe what people say they know about witches, wizards, and Satanism. Thanks to YouTube, I got a brief education on Wicca, which from first impressions sounds very respectful of the earth. I wonder if they don’t eat meat.
I also learnt that some historians believe Joan of Arc might have been a witch, in addition the church actually burnt her to death then 500 years they declared her a Saint. The history of Satan is also interesting. The more I learn, the less I’m a slave to my imagination. Still the whole Satan thang gives me creeps, and I remember being told not seek those things out too much, as they (magic/demons/bad luck) will seek you out. Maybe its this unique address of death and other morbid business that makes it refreshingly different and weirdly comforting.
Anyhow maybe it’s the rebellion against the masses and courage to follow one’s own calling even if society at large except around Halloween doesn’t accept it, is thought provoking and inspiring. Not sure what I will dress up as for Halloween, but maybe I incorporate Goth fashion in my daily fashion and become more knowledgeable of all pagan religions, maybe even the one my own ancestors’ followed?
The fashion just excites me like no other…one of my favourite blogs
